This section of the City of Palm Coast Website was developed by the Department of Planning and Development as a resource for City of Palm Coast and Flagler County residents to aid them in becoming familiar with the native vegetation as well as to inform them of the particular challenges of growing plants in Florida. This site will promote and encourage Xeriscape Landscaping to protect the environment. Xeriscape landscaping is a common sense approach to gardening that conserves water and protects the environment. By matching the right plants with the existing site conditions, a healthy landscape can be maintained with minimal addition of additional resources such as fertilizer, pesticides and water. This practice results in a reduction of the amount of pollutants that reach our bodies of water because fewer yard chemicals are used. Fertilizers and pesticides can pollute our lakes, rivers, aquifers and oceans when they are washed out of the yard with the rain. By using plants that naturally grow in our area, you can create a low maintenance landscape that is as lush as Florida itself! So dig in and enjoy! |
