Intracoastal Waterway Cleanup Event

SEPTEMBER 19, 2009

WHAT WILL YOU F.I.N.D.?

Palm Coast is hosting an Intracoastal Waterway Cleanup event. Equipped with a $5,000 Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND) grant award, City staff will be asking local volunteers to protect and enjoy nature by removing trash within their developments or along City paths, walkways and waterways. Boaters can work in saltwater canals and Intracoastal waters and walkers can clear the paths and trails alongside the waterway.

For the City's inaugural event, the 2008 cleanup was a great success.

  • 98 Participants (walkers, boaters, kayakers)
  • 713 lbs. of recyclable garbage
  • 1244 lbs. of generic garbage
  • 5.9 miles of Intracoastal Waterway (ICWW) covered
  • 7.1 miles of main feeder saltwater canal waterways covered

This year's adventure begins at Holland Park for pre-registration package pick-up at 8:00 am. Groups of five or more volunteers may pick up their packages early at the City of Palm Coast Community Center from September 14th through September 18th. Your package will include a t-shirt, trash bags, gloves, safety sheet, and clean-up result form. Volunteers will be invited back to Holland Park at 12:00 pm to enjoy City-provided snacks and beverages with a special award's ceremony for most unique FIND.

Electronic recycling will be offered at this year's event. Even if you do not participate as a volunteer, the public is encouraged to bring unwanted electronic devices from 8:00 am - 12:00 pm.
