Seeds get tested in the first round of a $10,000 Palm Coast Men's Futures Championship

PALM COAST, FL - All of the 8 seeds were in action at a $10,000 USTA pro circuit event at Palm Coast Tennis Center and all of them got pushed to show their best tennis to secure a spot in the second round.

Victor Estrella, the number one seed of the tournament, faced the winner of a wild card tournament Mathew Short. Victor came out hitting big serves and easily handling returns which gave him a comfortable 6-1 win in the first set. Despite the slow start, Mathew pulled his concentration together and was able to win second set 6-1. Both players looked sharp in the 3rd set, but Victor Estrella proved that he is number one seed and the highest ranked player in a tournament at 327 for a reason and secured a first round win with a 6-2 third set.

Patrik Brydolf had to go through qualifying and once again proved that he deserves to be in the main draw by beating the #7 seed Soong-Jae CHO from Korea. "Advancing through the qualifying draw helped me gain more confidence and I knew I could win the match the second I stepped on the court", said Patrik after discharging Soong-Jae 6-4 7-6. The match was by no means easy with Patrik Brydolf trailing 2-4 in the second set: "Staying positive and winning important points helped me close out the match in 2 sets". Patrik Brydolf will face Stefano Ianni in his 2nd round match on Thursday at 10am.

Greg Ouellette, an Ormond Beach native, and the #5 seed in the draw had to withdraw from his match with the back injury. The rest of the seeds faced some strong opposition, but were able to advance to the 2nd round of Palm Coast Men's Futures Championship.

2nd round of singles will be played at Palm Coast Tennis Center on Thursday, February 4th beginning at 10am. Admission to the matches is FREE until Friday, February 5th. We are located at 1290 Belle Terre pkwy in Palm Coast, Florida and tickets are available for sale on site.
